Update – March 2014: Eight years later, a Fat Tire Bike Tour is still one of my favorite things to do in Paris. The night bike tour is 14 miles, moving at a pretty good clip but getting up close and personal to Notre Dame, The Louvre, the Pont des Arts and the Eiffel Tower with a snack at Berthillon on Ile St. Louis and a boozy reprieve in the middle. Our tour guide, Rachael, was energetic and helped us navigate the traffic on a busy Parisian night.
October 2007: A bike tour is a great way to orient yourself with a new city quickly. Fat Tire Bike Tours is an American company that caters to young English-speaking tourists. We took the Paris night bike tour on our first evening in the city, starting at the base of the Eiffel Tower. We had a great tour guide and a fun group of college students and other young Americans, British and Australians. The tour included a stop at Berthillon, as well as a boat cruise on the Seine complete with wine. 🙂 I can’t say enough about this tour! We met some amazing people that we continued to hang out with for the rest of our time in Paris. We went to Versailles the next day and ran into our tour guide from the day before who was leading the Versailles bike tour. Fat Tire has some great options for tours in Paris – be sure to check them out!
