Via Guelfa 98/R Firenze, Italia 055-471967Updated January 30, 2014: Sadly I believe Il Messere is now closed. If anyone travels to Florence and finds that it is in fact still open or has moved, please send me a message at firstname.lastname@example.org or comment on this post and I will update.
Il Messere came recommended by a good friend of mine whose father knew the owner, Tonino. When we asked for him, Tonino instantly recognized the reference to “the dentist from Connecticut” and we were in for a treat. Looking back we likely embarrassed ourselves by having antipasto, pasta and the infamous bisteca fiorentina, a regional specialty. The bisteca is really meant for about four people (read: men) to share, not two young women. When placed in front of us, we gasped but it was so delicious we soon got over the shock of the size. Our first real meal in Italy, Il Messere was authentic and memorable.
