Another recommendation from our Italian train companions, is Maccheroni. This restaurant, situated in a little piazza a short walk from the Pantheon, serves good quality ingredients and lovely pasta dishes (not just a clever name). On my most recent trip, when trying to navigate to the location, we stopped for directions at a hotel and the doorman even recommended it as one of the best restaurants in Rome. Giovanna had a lovely Spaghetti Carbonara, a Roman specialty, and I had an incredible Gemelli Tartufo so fragrant that I could smell it before it arrived at the table. If they don’t have truffles in heaven, I don’t want to go there. 🙂 I recommend sitting outside, if weather permits, to take in the lively energy in the little piazza.
