Surprisingly enough, I really only knew of Mike’s Pastry in the North End when I was going to college in Boston. A couple of friends recommended Modern Pastry because they allow you to custom order your cannoli and they fill them while you wait. The line is long, its cash only and the servers lack a bit of charm, but the cannolis are worth it. On my visit in May 2011 I tried a chocolate dipped shell with chocolate filling and chocolate chips – far from your standard ricotta cannoli. Absolutely delicious seeing as I devoured it in the cab before we got to the next stop of the evening.
